Mosquitoes are recognized for their biting habits and appetite for blood. These pests have a long proboscis that serves as a needle to pierce skin and suck out blood. In the process, the bites result in itchy red bumps — the body’s natural allergic reaction to the mosquito’s saliva.
While these bites irritate the skin, what’s more concerning is the risk of mosquitoes spreading viruses like Zika, West Nile, or malaria. While mosquitoes are less likely to carry disease in the United States, global warming trends have led to the migration of disease-carrying mosquitoes.
The Breeding Habits of Mosquitoes
Mosquitoes bite and consume blood in order to breed. Once they get their fill, they begin to lay eggs in their breeding site of choice — standing water. This is why they are prevalent in marshes and swamps. Near homes and buildings, mosquitoes breed in puddles, pools, birdbaths, buckets, old tiles, lawn areas with poor drainage, and other areas where water accumulates after rainfall.
Mosquitoes can reproduce quickly; a single female can lay up to 300 eggs at a time. After 24 to 48 hours, the eggs hatch into larvae and grow into an adult after a couple of days. This makes it crucial to not only target adult mosquitoes but the entire life cycle if you want to get rid of an infestation.

Our skilled mosquito control experts use a four-step approach to address the entire mosquito population:
- Eliminate breeding sites: We locate and address all areas where there is standing water. This could mean emptying containers and draining puddles where necessary. If there are areas of standing water that remain, we apply larvicide tablets to the water which destroy any mosquito larvae present.
- Install traps to address female mosquitoes: We can place a trap or station equipped with a larvicide that attracts the mosquitoes to lay eggs in the trap. Upon doing so, the larvicide contaminates the legs and body of the mosquito with a fungus that kills pupating eggs and the adult mosquito.
- Treat active areas with insecticide: Finally, we will strategically apply a residual insecticide and insect growth regulator using a mist blower or backpack sprayer to all the breeding and hiding areas mosquitoes frequent. This solution is long lasting and is applied to foliage, the underside of leaves, and other shady areas. We make sure to get thorough coverage so that mosquitoes are effectively controlled.
- Follow-up applications: As needed, we can conduct routine perimeter sprayings of your property to keep mosquitoes away, make the area less appealing to congregate, and significantly reduce the population.
